There are tons of senior dogs at shelters that are often overlooked because of their age. And when they are of old age AND have special needs, it’s nearly impossible for them to find a loving home.
Bailey, an 11-year-old Schnauzer, is blind and was abandoned because his family could no longer handle it. They surrendered him to Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue, where he sat for a long time, waiting for someone to love him.
They made a Facebook post about him on their page, trying to find someone who would foster him. 5,000 people saw it, but no one stepped up to help. They began to think that day would never come. But a teen, who clearly has a great love for animals and a heart of gold, came along and changed that.
Audrey Higgins, 15, wanted to become a foster mother for her 15th birthday. She saw Bailey and wanted to adopt him right away. Bailey went from not drinking or going to the bathroom, to eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, and becoming very playful. He continues to improve while under the care of Aubrey, and we couldn’t be more thankful for her!
Not many teens would do what Audrey did. She truly has a heart of gold. Hopefully others will hear of this story and become inspired by it and encouraged to adopt! Audrey and Bailey were definitely meant to be and it’s so great that they found each other.

Growing up, Ashley always had a passion for writing. After receiving her Bachelor's in Journalism from Stony Brook University, she now uses that passion to write about the thing she loves most in this world: animals! When she isn't writing, you can find her curled up on the couch with a kindle in her hands and her Guinea Pigs on her lap.
