A 16-year-old named Olivia Harmon, of Oceanside, California, has a huge soft spot for all animals. In fact, she loves them so much that she started her own animal rescue organization, where she saves animals from slaughter and other horrible circumstances, takes great care of them, and finds them loving forever homes.
It all began in the summer of 2016 when she rescued her first farm animal, a 300-pound pig named Indie, who was being sent to slaughter. Being 14 years old at the time, Olivia wasn’t exactly sure of how to rescue an animal, but what she did know is that she needed to think and act quickly if she wanted to save this pig.
She searched for a trailer that she could use to transport the pig and a sanctuary that would take her in. After she finally put all of the pieces together, Olivia and her family drove seven hours one way to rescue this pig. They brought her to a sanctuary and in that moment, Olivia knew that this is what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.
Several months after rescuing Indie, Olivia started her own organization called Happy Hooves Rescue, which is pending 501©(3). Her goal is to open up her own farm animal sanctuary. But in the meantime, she will continue to rescue as many animals as possible, while showing people that animals deserve our help and compassion.
