“I never thought miracles were real until today..”
Kaitlyn Kolinsky has finally been reunited with her beloved golden retriever, Sandy, who went missing two months ago.
On November 27, Kolinsky took both of her dogs, Sandy and Tucker, to a dog park in Pennsylvania and was headed back to the car when a loud noise frightened Sandy. The leash slipped out of Kolinsky’s hand and the 2-year-old golden retriever took off into the nearby woods.
Sandy’s family searched every day for her. They refused to give up hope and posted flyers around the area and reached out to animal organizations for help.
Just as the family started to wonder if they would ever see Sandy again, they received a call in the middle of the night.
A local man, Brian Neipert, heard a dog barking near his home and remembered seeing a missing dog flyer. He found Sandy trapped under a tree and immediately called her family to tell them she was safe. “A kind man found her stuck in some trees far in the woods. At 3am he made sure we got the message—that he had found her,” wrote Kolinsky.
Apparently, her leash got tangled in the tree and she was trapped there for the past two months. “My dad went to get her out of the tree,” Kolinsky told Daily Paws. “[Sandy] was so excited, she basically jumped into our arms and was wagging her tail so much I’m shocked it didn’t fall off! I think she was looking for us just as much as we were looking for her.”
Sandy lost a lot of weight and was dehydrated, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The sweet pup is glad to be home and is being showered with love and gifts. Chewy heard Sandy’s story and sent a care package to her filled with toys, treats, and a bandana.
“I didn’t think this day would come, welcome back home Sandy,” Kolinsky said in a post announcing Sandy was found. She went on to encourage others with, “My words of wisdom is have faith, nothing is ever impossible so always prepare for the BEST, not the WORST.”
