‘Fuller House’ Family Dog, Cosmo, Passes Away Just Weeks Before Series Finale

Many of us grew up watching Full House, the cute ‘90s sitcom about a widowed dad raising three daughters with the help of his brother-in-law and best friend.

It was only a matter of time before this wholesome crew – and one of the decade’s defining television families – reunited in Fuller House, a Netflix reboot that caught up with many of the show’s original characters. The reboot even cast an adorable puppy named Cosmo, the grand-pup of Comet, the Tanner’s original family dog.

Now producers have announced that the Golden Retriever has suddenly passed away. “We’re sad to share that the Fullers’ faithful dog Cosmo, who grew up on our set, passed away after complications from surgery,” producers announced on Twitter. “There will never be another quite like our boy. We’ll miss him forever.”

The dog’s human co-stars — especially Candace Cameron Bure, who plays Cosmo’s ‘dog mom’ in Fuller House, and the dog’s 12-year-old TV brother, Elias Harger — were especially distraught by the news. “Our sweet boy Cosmo is now running around in doggy heaven. I imagine he’s playing with Comet right now,” the actress wrote on Instagram.

Harger wrote a heartwarming post mourning the loss of his “buddy.”

Like many of Full House’s human characters, little Cosmo also grew up in front of the camera. Viewers first met him as a tiny puppy in Fuller House‘s first episodes, then watched him grow into a sweet, loving dog over the course of five seasons.

These years together make especially hard for cast and crew to say goodbye to their furry sidekick, who passed away just weeks before the series finale. “Cosmo has been in Fuller House since the start and we are heartbroken that he passed away during surgery complications,” Bure continued. “You’ll be so missed love bug.”
