One day while traveling down a dusty, gravel road, someone noticed four balls of fur on the side of the road. They stopped and, once the dust settled, realized they were four adorable puppies. They had been dumped there and left to fend for themselves.
The Good Samaritan could not leave them, so they scooped them up and brought them into town. They called Peace, Love, & Animals, a nonprofit, no-kill rescue located in Tanner, Alabama, and asked if they would be able to help the puppies. Although the shelter was full, the staff could not say no.
Upon arrival, all four puppies were checked over by a vet that found all tested positive for parvovirus, a life-threatening viral disease. Just the word parvo sends chills up the spine of any person because the disease claims many puppies’ lives. Their immune system is not fully developed, and when it is attacked by parvovirus, some cannot handle it. The shelter wanted to give each puppy a fighting chance on living a long, happy life, so they rushed them to the vet to start treatment.
Parvovirus is highly contagious, so once treatment was started, the puppies were quarantined for three weeks. Luckily, all the puppies made it through treatment. The next step was to find names and homes for the puppies. The shelter named them Moose, Grizzly, Bear, and Emma.
The shelter could not resist the velvet ears and puppy breath but knew these puppies needed forever homes. It did not take long before all four puppies were adopted. All four are now living the lives they deserve, full of love and attention.
Emma stole the heart of an employee of Tractor Supply during an adoption event hosted at the store.
Moose is now known as Rhys and rules the house.
Grizzly completed his family and his new mom says he is “Just what we needed.”
Finally, Bear lives up to his name with his size and strength. He has plenty of room to run on the farm where he lives in Mississippi.
Peace, Love, & Animals thanks GreaterGood for the grant to help these puppies and others like them with the Friends Program. You can become a member and stay updated on all the animals that are being rescued and adopted with help from the program.
