Lauren Etz was driving with her labradoodle Tanner on 485 in Charlotte, North Carolina, when she was involved in a rollover accident near Mallard Creek Road.
Frightened from the accident, Tanner ran off and was nowhere to be found. For the next five days, volunteers searched the woods surrounding the area where the accident had been, but had no luck in finding the adorable pooch.
Then, one morning, Etz received the amazing call that she had been praying and waiting for: her Tanner was found! Two young boys, Christian and Santiago, saw Tanner walking outside their house. They were just relaxing inside when they happened to see him through the window. Christian said many lost dogs wander into his yard because they live right by the woods.
Without hesitation, the boys got a leash and were able to get it on Tanner. The boys’ mom then called Etz to let her know that the dog they found might be Tanner. Etz was stuck in rush hour, but did her best to get there as quickly as she could.
Meanwhile, Tanner was outside lying down. He looked exhausted after everything he had been through, but little did he know, his day was about to get a whole lot better.
When Etz finally arrived, she got out of her car and ran up to Tanner. As soon as he realized it was her, he started wagging his tail a mile a minute and jumped all over her, licking her face. Etz tearfully hugged him and told him she loved him several times.
It’s clear that these two share a very special bond, and it’s so heart-warming to see them together again. She’s grateful for the people who spent their time searching for Tanner and for the boys who wound up finding him.
“Thank you so much to the two boys who found him and stayed with him. I know you were late for school, but thank you for saving my dog,” she told CBS NC.
