Adoption saves lives and in return you get a best friend for life.

Who doesn’t want to come home to a wagging tail, wet kisses and howls of excitement?!

On May 4, over 110 shelters in 20 different states are hoping to find forever homes for all of their shelter pets. These shelters have teamed up with BISSELL Pet Foundation to host “Empty The Shelters” event.

There will be dogs of all sizes and breeds and don’t forget about the charismatic cats. Each pet will have a reduced adoption fee of just $25 and BISSELL Pet Foundation will cover the remaining costs. To ensure that the pets are matched with the perfect families, all shelters screen potential adopters. The goal is to find a loving and forever home for each animal.

All shelters participating in the event are listed on BISSELL’s website.

“Each participating shelter chooses which pets will participate in Empty the Shelters; we do not limit due to age, breed, etc. Because older dogs and cats are often overlooked for puppies, many shelters choose to use this event to bring exposure to the dogs and cats that have been with them the longest – giving the older pets the chance to find their forever home,” states BISSELL.

Each shelter has their own specific guidelines, so please check with your local shelter. If you are interested in adopting at the event, shelters suggest you fill out an application prior to the event. All the available dogs and cats are listed on each shelter’s website.

Since the event began in 2016, over 19,000 pets have been adopted in 17 states. People that found their best friend at prior events posted on BISSELL’s page. Marissa McBain posted, “We were able to adopt our best girl, Lucy because of BPF last year! She is the best thing to happen to us!”

Maria Drouillard wrote, “Jake (formerly Buddy Boy from MO), who just turned 4 years old, adopted to his furever home 3 years ago at this event at the SPCA of SW Michigan. ❤
Thank you Bissell Pet Foundation and the SPCA of SW Michigan!”

The foundation posted a reminder to adopters that pets need time to adjust to their new homes. Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment, so please be sure it is something you are able and willing to do.

Adopt don’t shop! Please share this with your friends and family. “The more people you tell, the more we can empty the shelters together!”
