Amazon is known for their amazing selection of quality goods at amazing prices. They are the prime online supplier and now they are a prime place to work for dog lovers.
Every year there is “Take Your Dog To Work Day”, where companies allow their employees to bring their dog to work. This annual June holiday has become an everyday occurrence at Amazon headquarters in Seattle. The office has 6,000 dogs that show up each day with their parents to work.
The dog friendly environment all started with a dog named Rufus. Rufus, a Welsh corgi, came to work with his mom and dad who worked at Amazon. Rufus won the hearts of his human coworkers and the rest is history.
CNBC reported, “Rufus was also a hard worker and “Amazonians” used his paw to click links on the company website. Although the dog has since passed away, his legacy remains. Amazon states that there are photos of Rufus around the 8.1 million square foot campus and he even has a building named after him.”
Rufus made a significant impact on the company and now he, along with all the other dogs at Amazon, are featured on a broken link page. All dogs report to Lara Hirschfield, Amazon’s “Woof Pack” Manager.
“Having dogs in our workplace is an amazing treat. They make employees smile, and we’re proud this is such a uniquely Amazonian tradition. It’s truly ingrained in our company culture,” states Hirschfield.
All dog lovers will enjoy going into the office as an employee of Amazon. Fido is welcomed with open arms with special accommodations just for dogs. Amazon has gone above and beyond to make sure that Fido is comfortable and has all his needs met.
When Fido enters the building, he is greeted at the reception desk with a “good morning” and a dog treat. Then as he makes his way to the office, he greets his four-legged co-workers with sniffs and tail wags. Once in the office, Fido settles into his comfortable dog bed. When it is time to use the bathroom, he heads to the 17th floor for the outdoor doggie deck ,built just for the office dogs. There Fido can release himself and some energy.
The doggie deck is furnished with fake grass made for dog’s to go to the bathroom on. As well as automatic water bowls at all different heights to accommodate all sizes. Then with the toss of a ball, they can play a quick game of fetch. Upon re-entering the building and passing another reception desk, Fido scores another dog treat.
On lunch or after work there is a company off-leash dog park. Well-behaved dogs are able to really stretch their legs and prepare for their afternoon nap.
Dogs are proven stress relievers in the workplace. Also, they increase interactions between coworkers and build moral. Dogs need to go outside to relieve themselves, so it keeps employees healthy by making them walk around and get a breath of fresh air.
Amazon has been dog-friendly since day 1. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a new ‘normal’ in the workplace.
