Someone Threw A Neglected Dog Over A Shelter Fence In The Middle Of The Night

We sometimes hear about dogs that are neglected and abused but when we see it for ourselves, it’s difficult to imagine that it could actually happen.

Unfortunately, it happens all too often and we have an example of a wonderful dog below that experienced such a tragedy.

This story is out of Boca Raton, Florida, when they had an unexpected addition of a little dog at the Tri-County Animal Rescue. The little dog, which turned out to be a Shih Tzu, was obviously neglected and tormented for years.

The dog was dropped off at the animal shelter but not in the typical way. Somebody had tossed the dog over the fence at the shelter in the middle of the night. They found the dog, which was barely recognizable and was little more than a ball of fur at the time.

That little dog, that they have named Parker, really made an impression on the staff. At first, it was difficult to tell that it was even a dog under all of the matted fur and neglect, but something beautiful happened when she got the TLC she needed.

The rescue had the following to say on their Facebook page: “As many of you have seen on the news, our shelter was blessed with the honor of saving Parker when someone threw her over our fence by the dumpster in the middle of the night. Her hair was cemented to her skin, her nails so long they were wrapped around her paws and wounds so old they were filled with maggots. The smell is something I will never forget.”

They also agreed that they had never seen anything like it and hoped that they never would again.

After discovering the little dog outside, Parker was brought in and the veterinary staff started to work right away. It took about two hours for five staff members to shave her. In fact, they had to use several different buzzers to do it because they kept getting too hot.

Parker also had a number of open sores and they tended to those as they found them.

They said: “We found mammary tumors and her eyes in a permanent open position because of the matting. One eye is not even fully formed. Her temperature was getting low and we spoke to her, telling her the worst was behind her, that she had to be strong, that she was loved.”

At first, they weren’t even sure that Parker would live through the night because she had been through so much “neglect and torment.” Not only did she survive, but she also continued to make it and started getting better.

Within a matter of days, Parker was eating and she quickly won over the hearts of everyone at the shelter. They even considered her to be a blessing.

“I know some of you may comment because of my use of the word blessing, that this should have never happened in the first place. I 100% agree. We don’t even know her original name or if she even had one. But friends know this, for whatever reason Parker was brought to us and through our courageous, quick thinking and incredibly knowledgeable veterinary staff she’s still alive,” the post concluded.

Although they aren’t sure, they feel that Parker was likely kept in a cage and used for breeding. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is now involved and an open investigation is hoping to find the person who left her at the shelter. It is their hope that they will find any other dogs that need rescued.

WPBF reported on the situation, saying that Parker will recover and they hope that by September, she will be ready for adoption. She continues to make progress and is even walking around outside. That’s amazing, considering the fact that she couldn’t even walk when she first arrived. Just look at the photos below:
