Have you ever wanted to spend all day cuddling dogs? Then good news! An animal shelter is looking for an expert “dog snuggler” who can comfort frightened dogs.
The job position was opened up by the Human Society of Tampa Bay, and is located in Tampa Bay, Florida. It is voluntary, so you won’t be getting paid for it. But, it does have its perks – mostly getting to work with shelter dogs and showing them love, many of whom probably have never received it before.

The majority of the animals in the shelter have to be spayed or neutered, so shelter staff is looking for volunteers to work with the frightened animals as they endure their medical procedures both before and after.
There is no age limit to the volunteers, however, the shelter’s official website warns that people younger than 16 need to be supervised by an adult. They are also looking for volunteers who can commit to at least six months of volunteer work at the shelter before they make the transition to cuddler. Plus, all volunteers will be expected to help the staff and vets keep the shelter neat and tidy.
In a January interview, Volunteer Liz McCoy said to ABC, “It makes me emotional just thinking about it. Nothing happy brings animals through our doors. So, when volunteers come in to make things better, it’s just a moving thing to be a part of.”
If you’re looking to volunteer with animals then cuddler isn’t the only position that you can apply for. Other volunteer positions that are currently open to the public to get involved with are a dog playgroup assistant, a foster parent, a kennel assistant, animal driver, surgery assistant, and exam assistant.
So, if you are in the Tampa Bay area and want to do something to give back to the community, why not get involved with animals?
