Surveillance footage shows a couple abandoning their dog outside of Northeast Animal Shelter in Massachusetts this past week.
The couple tried to open the door, but when they couldn’t get it opened, they tied the dog to the bench and drove away. The poor dog was stuck outside in 7-degree weather before shelter staff finally found her.
Although the shelter wasn’t opened yet at the time, there were employees inside that the couple could have spoken to if they tried other doors or at least called the shelter.
Staff was initially concerned with frostbite, but luckily the little pup is healthy and unharmed. They are taking great care of her, and once she is ready, she will be put up for adoption.
Northeast Animal Shelter posted pictures of the dog on their Facebook page and said, “Maybe we’ll never know the name she has always known, what she has been through, or why you didn’t go to another door at our building to talk to someone instead of just leaving her tied up but she gobbled up a warm meal and is wrapped in blankets and getting warm. She’ll be safe with us until she finds a new home with someone who will love her forever.”
They are still searching for the couple, who could face charges if found.
