Crazy Cockatoo Throws Potted Plants From Balconies

If you’ve ever been around a cockatoo, you already realize that they are a bird that is larger than life. They can talk, and often, they use their words to express their outrage at whatever is going on in front of them.

Of course, we all realize this is learned behavior, but then again, when cockatoos are in the wild and roaming the streets in Australia, they can cause quite a stir as well.

This was seen recently in a very interesting way after a cockatoo was shown throwing things off of a balcony in Melbourne.

Some people were wondering why a plant had fallen to the ground from one of the balconies above. They even wondered if a homeowner had dropped it by accident but they didn’t have to wait for long to figure out it was a cockatoo that had flipped his wig.

They even caught the scene on video and it was uploaded to Instagram, showing the cockatoo knocking one potted plant off after the other and sending them crashing to the street below. One of them even bounced off of the overhang and hit a nearby van.

According to ABC, the person who filmed the video, Brown Cardigan, said the cockatoos have been wreaking havoc on those balconies for a number of years.

He said: “It started happening during lockdown. I think it is quirky and funny.” He went on to say that it’s only nature and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Although it may be true that there isn’t much that can be done about it, it still would be frustrating if you had one of these plants hit you on the head. Even an animal behaviorist was somewhat baffled by what was happening, saying that cockatoo behavior has been well documented and this was a surprise.

According to ABC, he said: “Wilfully throwing pot plants off a multi-story balcony is a new observation – it is bizarre and fascinating.” He also said that they were used to cockatoos knocking on windows for food and perhaps somebody was feeding this bird.

Then again, the bird may just have been having some fun. Cockatoos are intelligent and they do enjoy cutting loose every once in a while. Let’s just hope it cuts loose somewhere else next time.
