Rescue Dog Finally Relaxes After Her Dirty Collar Is Removed

Jeju Island in South Korea is home to many beautiful sights, like expansive beaches, volcanic craters, and lava tubes.

The island is also home to the famous Jeju dog, a native but rare breed that was brought back from the brink of extinction in the 1980s.

While conservation efforts were successful for the Jeju dog, the island isn’t free of animal cruelty and neglect. Just ask Emily with the Jeju Animal Rescue Crew.

Emily was one of the rescuers who responded to a group of dogs and puppies that were dumped on a farm on the island. The group of dumped dogs included three mamas and 12 puppies, and the property owner made it clear they didn’t want the dogs.

Of course, Emily and her team couldn’t leave the dogs there. While waiting to arrange foster homes, the rescuers left dog food out and made sure they all had shelter.

Eventually, they were able to get all of the mamas and puppies into foster homes, including a mama dog named Clementine.

Clementine was terrified of people and unsure of her foster mom, Lindsay.

In an interview with The Dodo, Emily said, “When Clementine first went to her foster, she was so so so scared.”

Lindsay, Clementine’s foster mom, added that Clementine was terrified of “every noise.”

After Clementine decompressed a bit, Lindsay noticed her collar was dirty and seemed uncomfortable so she slowly started to take it off the terrified pooch. Lindsay wasn’t sure how Clementine would react to having the collar removed, but as soon as the collar came off, Clementine started wagging her tail!

It was as if the dog finally realized she was safe – she was free!

Eventually, all the dogs, including Clementine, were transported to new foster homes in the U.S. and Canada. Clementine found her home with Sarah and Caleb in Portland, Oregon.

Just like at Lindsay’s house, Clementine was terrified in her new home in Oreogn. Sarah and Caleb began working with her and helping her build confidence. As they watched her blossom into a life-loving dog, Sarah and Caleb both realized they’d fallen in love with her and wanted her to remain in their family.

Clementine became a foster fail and she’s now living her best life with Sarah and Caleb!
