Chris Evans Talks About The Reality Of Adopting An Adult Rescue Dog

If there is one thing we recognize about life, it’s the fact that we are going to have to make decisions along the way. Some of those decisions are going to be a no-brainer but others we will have to live with for the rest of our lives.

Nobody knows this better than Chris Evans, and he is discussing the “best decision” he ever made in life.

That decision was to rescue a dog, but he didn’t bring home a puppy, he adopted a full-grown dog.

After filming Lightyear, he went on a press tour and talked about some of the things that he has been doing during his time on the set. According to Insider, he also spoke with BuzzFeed, talking about how he adopted a boxer mix and what the adoption process has been to him.

When Evans used to think about adopting a dog, he would think about adopting a little puppy as a rescue dog. When he brought Dodger home, he was full-grown. You can see pictures of Dodger on Evan’s Instagram:

The 41-year-old actor said: “It wasn’t the story I had in my mind, but it ended up being the best decision of my life.”

That’s high praise, and it is one that can also influence many people to think outside of the box when it comes to adopting a pet. Perhaps we can echo his thoughts when we consider adult dogs and how they are often overlooked at the shelter. It’s too bad because they have a lot to give.

Evans says: “They just have such a connection with whoever they’ve been around for a while. That’s what makes an older dogs’ love so special. You gotta earn it.”

Dodger became a part of his family in 2017.

When speaking with PEOPLE, he said that it was love at first sight when he first met the dog at an animal shelter. He said: “I foolishly walked in and I thought, ‘Are these actor dogs or are these real up for adoption dogs?'”

Before he knew it, he was face to face with Dodger and he realized right away that the dog didn’t belong there. In his words, he snagged Dodger and he is a good dog.

When he adopted Dodger, they estimated that the dog was about one-year-old. He still has plenty of energy and acts like a puppy, and Evans considers him to be a sweetheart.
