4 Senior Dogs Were Saved From Difficult Pasts. Now They’ve Adopted A New Furry Friend To Join Them

It is a sad fact that senior animals are often overlooked when it comes to pet adoptions. While older dogs may have some health concerns, they make the perfect calm pet. These aging canines are content with simply lounging in your lap.

L.A. resident Julie Docherty has learned just how great of pets senior dogs can make. She adopted her first dog about five years ago, but didn’t stop there. Now she has four loving senior Chihuahuas: MoMo, Choli, Paloma and Benito.

Recently, Docherty brought home a new member of the family, but it’s not exactly a Chihuahua. She was volunteering in Skid Row in Los Angeles with the Love My Neighbor Foundation, where she helps hand out food and clothes to the homeless and others in need, and sometimes people bring their pets. She then saw a young woman carrying a tiny, crying kitten.

“She explained she had just saved the cat from being tossed around in one of the tents (which line the streets as makeshift housing,” Docherty told The Dodo. “She knew she wouldn’t be able to keep it, and was asking if any of us knew a rescue where she could take the cat. Not having a game plan in place, but knowing I had to save this kitten, that day I came home with a cat.”
