Dying Dog Lives To Walk Down Aisle At His Best Friend’s Wedding
Our pets become part of the family and are our furry best friends. They are there for us through thick and thin, and never ever judge us. They always know when something isn’t right, and always greet us at the door after a long day.
My dog has been there for many milestones in my life, including when I graduated high school and college. For the last 15 years, Charlie the dog has also seen his owner, Kelly O’Connell, reach many milestones as well. When O’Connell just reached one of her biggest milestones, she knew Charlie had to be there to witness it.

Recently, O’Connell got to marry her husband in Colorado in front of her family and friends, and she was lucky enough to have her furry best friend, Charlie, there. Although this was a happy moment in O’Connell’s life, not everything was sunshine and rainbows. Earlier in the month, her beloved dog was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which left him sick and weak. He was in bad shape, and they were unsure if he’d live long enough to be a part of the wedding.

But just like all of the other milestones in the past 15 years of O’Connell’s life, Charlie was able to be a part of this one as well. Charlie was too weak to walk down the aisle himself, so one of the bridesmaids carried him.

“Everyone was trying to hold it together,” Jen Dziuvenis, wedding photographer and family friend, told The Dodo. “It was just one of the most loving things I’ve ever seen. It just touched all of us so much.”

O’Connell was forever grateful to be able to marry her human best friend with her furry best friend by her side. After the ceremony, O’Connell kept saying, “Charlie, you’re here. You made it.”

Sadly, a week after the wedding, Charlie crossed over the rainbow bridge. But O’Connell will always be able to look back at this special day, knowing that she was able to share it with Charlie.
