Shelter Houses Old Cats in “Luxury” Retirement Village
Life as a stray or unwanted cat is hard. If they’re not living on the streets, those cats are fighting to survive in shelters, often shelters that have high euthanasia rates.
According to the ASPCA, around 530,000 cats are euthanized in the United States alone each year. But one shelter that’s fighting against cat euthanasia is the Shropshire Cat Rescue in the United Kingdom.
The rescue shares on its website that it has been rescuing and rehoming cats for the past 21 years. For some cats, however, rehoming isn’t possible.
While some shelters and rescues would simply euthanize cats that don’t have a chance at finding a forever home, the Shropshire Cat Rescue has a different strategy. They offer those cats a permanent retirement home!
It explains on its website, “For some cats due to their age or illnesses, rehoming is not possible. That is why we have created our very own luxury retirement village which provides plenty of home comforts, veterinary care, and love for our more mature residents.”
The village features a series of cottages that the cats can lounge in, as while as plenty of cat-proofed fencing and outdoor space for the felines to roam. It’s really a nice place for the cats to live out their golden years while recieing the love and care they need!
