5 Ways to Take Extra-Special Care of Your Kitty in Celebration of International Cat Day

International Cat Day is here, and it’s time to celebrate!

This fun feline holiday, also known as World Cat Day, has been happening every year on August 8th since its inception in 2002. It was created by the International Fund for Animal Welfare as a day to raise awareness for cat homelessness and teach about the various ways people can help and protect their feline friends.

We know you don’t need a reason to love on your pet, but having one never hurts! On this extra-special day of celebration for the feline species, we hope you’ll take some time to give your cat some extra-special care. Here are some ways you can do just that!

1. Keep kitty’s brain active with this cat treat ball

Who says KONG toys are just for dogs? Your cat needs mental stimulation just as much as any dog does, and this cat treat toy is the perfect way to help your cat work up an appetite and entertain herself at the same time! The toy promotes exercise and fulfills your cat’s desire to hunt her own food, which is a win for both your cat’s happiness and her health.

2. Add a touch of cool with this cat face bowl

Let your cat know how handsome you think he is with a surprise cool-cat face at the bottom of his food dish. Or even better, use it as a water dish so he can see his new friend at all times!

This cat-face dish will let other pets and people in the house know exactly who it belongs to so it doesn’t get used for anything else. Keep your cat happy with a full bowl that’s clearly for him and him alone. Plus, it’s dishwasher-safe, so it’s easy for you to wash.

3. Get some garden variety into your cat’s diet

Just like humans, cats need a variety of foods to stay healthy and happy, and that includes vegetables! This organic Kitty’s Garden from Pioneer Pet contains organic oats, wheat, rye and barley to help your cat maintain a balanced diet. The mini-garden also aids in digestion, helps prevent hairballs, and deters cats from nibbling on potentially toxic house plants. Just place it near their food or another place you know they’ll find it easily.

4. Liven things up with a catnip toy

If your cat loves catnip (and let’s be honest here, what cat doesn’t?), this is the purrfect addition to your kitty kingdom! The cotton/poly blend exterior keeps catnip bits from getting scattered about the house, while the 100% organic Vermont catnip inside will keep your cat happy for hours at a time. Plus, there’s just something adorable and whimsical about a cat eating a carrot—it may be the perfect Instagram photo op!

5. Try these PawsGive grooming wipes for water-free bathing

Everybody knows most cats hate baths, but sometimes you’ve just got to get your kitty clean. Well, finally there’s a way to do it without getting water involved. Thank goodness.

The Animal Rescue Site has partnered with PawsGive to bring some awesome new animal products to our store, including these aloe and oatmeal grooming wipes, which work on both dogs and cats. The wipes quickly and easily remove dirt, dander, and odors from your pet’s skin and fur, and the gentle formula is perfect for sensitive and difficult-to-clean areas like foot pads and skin folds. Say goodbye to the long struggle of bathing your cat and hello to a fresh clean kitty who’s not angry at you for getting her wet.

Every PawsGive purchase helps provide healthcare and meals to shelter pets in need thru GreaterGood.org.

Do something to show your cat you love him today! And remember, when you’re ready for your next pet, adopt, don’t shop! There are so many shelter pets and homeless animals out there who need a loving family just like yours!
