Wisconsin Shelter Plays Cat-Chelorette For Valentine’s Day

A Wisconsin shelter has found a clever way to help rescued cats find forever homes this Valentine’s Day.

The Madison Cat Project will be hosting an online adoption reality show featuring seven adoptable Cat-Chelorettes available for just $14 on or before February 14, 2020.

The model contestants — Molly, Julia Child, Meowly Cyrus, Luna, Izzie, Karma, and Matilda – are also the Madison, Wisconsin, shelter’s longest residents. Staff hopes their steeply discounted adoption fees will help these sweethearts finally find permanent homes.

“Being with a shelter, with foster, can really stress the cats out, so it’s not ideal to have them stay with us that long,” a shelter volunteer told News 3 Now. “We want them to be in a forever home so they’re comfortable and happy.”

In the spirit of the original show, rescuers have written up clever ads introducing each of the feline contestants. After sharing the cats’ name, age, hobbies, and fun facts, each ad asks potential adopters this question: Will you accept this rose? A different Cat-Chelorette will be introduced on the Madison Cat Project’s Facebook page for seven days leading up to Valentine’s Day.

So far, the shelter’s matchmaking scheme seems to be working, because one of the Cat-Chelorettes — described as an “ageless beauty” looking for a home where she can “relax and bask” in her own beauty — has already been adopted!
