Millions of dogs around the world are waiting for someone to come in and adopt them. Every footstep makes their ears prick and hearts start to race, with the hope that today is their day to leave the shelter. A sweet girl named Cassie patiently waited 525 days for the perfect someone to come.
When Cassie arrived at Humane Society of Greater Dayton, she had a few people interested in adopting her. The shelter posted, “She has been adopted from time to time and then returned and with each return, we learned more about her and her personality.” Cassie was started in a training program that she mastered. The sweet and loving girl just wanted a loving home of her own.
Her smiling face was featured in a local campaign for a car dealership. The dealership, Jeff Schmitt Auto Group, ran a campaign that for every test drive they would donate $50 to help dogs like Cassie. That is where her new mom first saw her. “Well, Cassie is the superstar pup in all of the ads running on TV for this campaign and seeing her in the ads helped Cassie’s new owner decide that Cassie was the one for her!”
The shelter posted the amazing news on Facebook stating, “BEST NEWS OF THE DAY!!! Cassie, who has been with us for 525 days found a forever home today!! Every day for 525 days she has patiently waited for that perfect person to walk through the doors and pick her and today was her day! Our staff may have shed a few tears saying goodbye and there may have been a few squeals of excitement, but we are so very happy for Cassie and her new family!”
The photo showed both Cassie and her new mom smiling. “It takes a village, but we can’t be more excited for this dynamic duo!” Thank you for rescuing her. Remember to adopt not shop!
July is one of the busiest months of the year for shelters and rescues. As the stray population explodes and more homeless pets are taken in, these facilities often find themselves struggling to keep the animals fed.
A single rescue pet will need 100 meals on average while housed at a shelter awaiting adoption into their forever home. National Feed a Rescue Pet Week is aimed at drawing attention to shelter needs during this critical time, and support from animal allies around the world. GreaterGood is stepping up to the challenge with the goal providing 4 million meals for homeless pets, but we can’t do it without your help!
