A few years ago, a Pit Bull named Cane was chained to a tree on property in North Carolina that belonged to his owner’s relative. He was left without food or water, but received it from animal lover Jamie Spencer, who also provided him with a dog house. Although she cared a lot for this poor dog, she was unable to take him into her own home.
Matters got worse when the property owner died. The new owners did not want Cane on the property any longer. Spencer knew she had to help Cane, and made a promise to him that she’d help him find a better life.
She contacted Kari Newton at Animal Adoption League, who got volunteers together and searched for people to help pay for Cane’s medical costs, a foster home, and for people who’d get Cane from the property.
Despite being a friendly, good dog, Cane was crippled with anxiety from being alone outside for so long. He never got to experience what it’s like to be a normal dog, and on top of that, he was in a lot of pain.
Eventually, a foster home was found for Cane, and he also received his first bath. Dogs Deserve Better and Operation Save a Shelter Dog in Virginia Beach, came to together to rescue Cane and bring him to Virginia for rehabilitation and vetting.
