Can Dogs Eat Spicy Food?

They sometimes say that variety is the spice of life, but there is a lot to be said about spices as well. Some people love spice so much that they will load up on everything hot, turning a simple dish, from chicken wings to tacos into a blazing inferno of spice.

This may make you wonder if your dog is ok to eat spices as well. It’s an interesting question.

Although you may have a desire to share your spicy food with your furry friends, you should never do so. When dogs eat spicy foods, it can cause problems, such as diarrhea, pain, and gas. In some cases, your dog may vomit because of the thirst they are feeling.

Of course, there are always going to be some people who tell you that dogs can eat everything. Although technically, they are correct, that doesn’t mean that they should be fed everything you eat.

After all, there are some significant differences in the way you are made internally and the inside workings of your dog.

Feeding your dog the wrong food, even if they seem to enjoy it, is not an act of kindness. For example, did you know that your dog could suffer significantly and even develop anemia if you feed them onions or garlic? In the same way, spicy food can harm your furry friend if it is fed to them.

I’m not saying that you should never feed a dog “people food.” Many families have been doing it for years, but you do need to be very careful. If you don’t know what you are giving your dog or if you give them anything you are eating just because they are begging for it, you might just be killing them with kindness.

Another issue with feeding the family dog from the table is that they are not likely to know where the boundary lies. They might just feel that anything you are eating is fair game and when you get up from the table for a minute, it might just disappear.

Ask anyone who feeds a dog scraps from the table and they will tell you that it is a tough habit to break.

The American Kennel Club also talks about how a dog might not be as discerning as their human family when it comes to tasting spices. Since they have far fewer taste buds than humans, they might just gobble down that spicy food without knowing what it is and end up with some stomach problems.

If you just can’t seem to say no to your dog when they are asking for food, perhaps you might just want to say yes to the right things.

Some dogs do quite well on a diet that includes some things that might be on the dinner table, you just need to be choosy when deciding what to feed your dog. They might just be healthier as a result.
