A Sudden Disappearance

Mishka, a 3-year-old terrier mix, vanished from her owner Mehrad Houman’s auto garage in California in July. The dog, known for her playful spirit, left behind a bewildered family and a void that seemed impossible to fill.

Despite the distance and the passing months, the Houman family, residing in San Diego, never lost hope. Elizabeth Houman, Mehrad’s wife, spearheaded a relentless search effort, distributing over a thousand flyers, reports the Associated Press, and wearing Mishka’s leash during search expeditions.

An Unexpected Discovery

The twist in Mishka’s tale occurred when police in Harper Woods, a suburb of Detroit, responded to a call about a stray dog. The Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society soon identified Mishka through her implanted identity chip, revealing her California origins, reports 9&10 News.

The news of Mishka’s discovery reached Mehrad Houman while he was en route to Minnesota, leading him to undertake a 10-hour drive to Michigan for a heartwarming reunion.

The Mystery of Mishka’s Journey

The circumstances of Mishka’s long journey remain shrouded in mystery.

“We think it was stolen and then it was sold and ended up in Michigan,” Corinne Martin, director of the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society told the Detroit News.

Upon examination, veterinarian Nancy Pillsbury noted that Mishka was well-cared for during her absence, suggesting a complex narrative behind her adventure.
