Burberry, an iconic British brand, just announced that they will be banning fur and angora from all of their collections. They join other big fashion brands like Armani, Versace, Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, and many more.
The announcement was made just before the start of New York Fashion Week. The brand is sending a message to others that fur is not in-style and never will be. Fur is on its way out in the fashion world. Consumers are wanting ethical clothing that does not harm animals.
Burberry will “phase out their existing real fur products”, while their new debut lines will be fur-free. Along with the announcement of banning fur, the brand stated that they will ” stop the practice of destroying unsaleable products, with immediate effect.”
Every year, over a billion animals are killed for their pelts. Fur trade is a brutal industry full of suffering animals. The fur-free movement is a huge win for rabbits, foxes, minks, and many others. This is a huge step towards a more humane world.

Humane Society International is now targeting Prada in a global campaign as the next fashion brand to become fur-free. The group will use all resources available “urging the design house to drop fur because it is cruel, out-dated and has no place in a modern society.”
HSI/UK Executive Director Claire Bass said, “Brands like Prada that continue to sell animal fur are becoming increasingly isolated as top designers drop fur cruelty from their collections, knowing that the vast majority of consumers find it obscene and obsolete. Prada has a clear choice to make as to whether it wants to be an apologist for the vile fur trade or to move with the times and strike a pose for compassionate fashion. We hope it makes the ethical choice to go fur-free, joining more than 900 brands that have joined the Fur Free Retailer programme globally. It’s never been clearer that fur’s days are numbered, and with our #FurFreeBritain campaign we’re urging the government to blaze a trail as the world’s first fur-free country.”
