Border Patrol Officers Are Surprised To See A Pair Of Eyes Staring At Them From An International Package

When you work on the border inspecting packages, you never quite know what you are going to find. Some days may be perfectly normal but other days are going to provide stories that will be told for a long time.

One of those stories took place when an officer working with the Canada Border Services Agency(CBSA) saw a box with a big hole in the side. They decided to take a closer look and when they peered into the hole, they were surprised to see a pair of eyes looking back at them.

According to the BC SPCA, once the officer saw that there was a cat in the box, they started putting things together. They knew that the box had come from Asia and now was in Vancouver. The cat had survived a trip of thousands of miles.

They knew the cat was alive but they were expecting the worst when they opened the box. What they found was a frightened feline (later named Precious Cardo) in a crate without bedding and water.

It was what they didn’t find that really surprised them. Although the cat had obviously traveled thousands of miles in the box, they didn’t see any evidence of urine or feces.

It took some coaxing, but they were able to get the cat into another box with fresh water and food. They then rushed Precious to the vet for a checkup. After all, the feline was likely in the box for weeks without water and food.

The BC SPCA shared an update on Precious on their website. She was severely dehydrated, underweight, and needed medical care and TLC. After giving her IV fluids to rehydrate her, they monitored her 24/7 for any problems. As a precaution, they also had her vaccinated.

Precious didn’t show an interest in eating at first, despite perhaps spending weeks without food. Now that she has been cared for by the vet, she is doing better and has been put in a foster home.

The Richmond Animal Shelter manager, Krista Shaw also gave a nice update to Richmond News. She said that Precious loves belly rubs and a good stretch on her lap. Looks like she is a real cuddle bug.
