These Dogs Are Searching For A Forever Home Together After Their Owner Died Of COVID-19

Four dogs located in New York recently lost their owner to COVID-19. Now, they’re seeking a new forever home together.

According to a Facebook post shared by the Nassau County SPCA, the four dogs, named Oliver, Winston, Isabelle, and Izzy, were brought to the SPCA by their owner’s father as a temporary home until their owner was out of the hospital. However, that day will never come.

When Jennifer Stien first got sick with COVID-19, her dad, Barry, took the fur babies in and was caring for them until Jennifer recovered and was out of the hospital. However, he was also sick with COVID-19 and his symptoms began to worsen. Soon, he was unable to care for the dogs.

Reluctantly, he brought them to the SPCA in hopes of finding a temporary home for them until he or his daughter recovered from the virus.

As the SPCA shared, “Normal day-to-day care of the dogs became impossible for him and although difficult to part with his daughter’s dogs (her babies), he knew [bringing to animals to the Nassau County SPCA] was the only way he could get better and help his daughter recover.”

A representative of the Nassau SPCA told PEOPLE, “He just couldn’t care for them anymore, he was having trouble breathing just getting the dogs out to us.”

Sadly, Barry ended up being hospitalized just one day after bringing the dogs in and passed away a few days after that.

“We were all so hopeful the daughter would recover and she would have her babies to come home to. Unfortunately that reunion will never happen as Oliver, Winston, Isabel and Izzy lost their mom this past week. They’ve lost everything,” the SPCA shared in their post.

With no other family to step in and care for the dogs, all four are looking for a home. Given all that they’ve been through with losing their human family, they’re hoping to find a home together.

As the rep shared with PEOPLE, “Now we have these amazing sweet dogs – hopefully, we can get a home that will take all four of them. We are trying.”

According to CBS New York, this is the first time the shelter has encountered a situation like this. Nassau SPCA President Gary Rogers said, “This is the first instance we’ve had an entire family die, and these pets have nowhere to go.”

They’re currently accepting donations to help with the costs of caring for the four dogs until a new owner can be found. For anyone interested in adoption, please email mmora@ncspca.us

Hopefully they find the loving new home that they deserve.
