Kapone the rescue pit bull was born with four legs, just like a normal pup, but then things took a turn for the worst.
When he was two years old, he began to limp when he walked. The vet said it might be cancer, in which case the vet said he should be put down. But his family didn’t listen and they refused to give up on this sweet boy.
“He is the rock that holds our family together,” said Jessica Pugh, Kapone’s mom. “He is my sanity.”
Eventually, Kapone needed to have his leg amputated. It took him a while to realize he didn’t have a leg anymore. But once he did, he acclimated to it very quickly. Having three legs has not slowed Kapone down!
If that wasn’t enough of a scare, Kapone’s family has recently learned that he might have terminal cancer. If he winds up losing another leg, he will then need a wheelchair to get around. But his family will continue to fight for him, and won’t ever give up.
Kapone may be a dog, but he has taught his family so much.
“Kapone has taught me to be brave. That you never give up fighting,” Pugh said. “You can come from absolutely nothing – I mean he literally came from a backyard breeder – And you can have a wonderful life.”
He’s also taught his little human siblings how to be patient, and to have compassion.
Kapone’s mom plans to adopt another three-legged dog soon so that Kapone will have a doggy sibling who’s just like him!
Today, Kapone is six years old and loving life! His family spoils him and gives him all the love and attention he could ever want. His life may have started out at a backyard breeder, but thankfully he wound up in the care of this loving family, who has made every single day worth living for him! Kapone is such a fighter and is an inspiration to us all!
